Let’s make food fun again!

Hi, I am Emily Bown. I help you improve your relationship with food and your body through compassionate and inclusive nutrition practices. My motto is, “wellness and eating disorder treatments occur best through love, empathy, and compassion.”

If your sink breaks, you call a plumber.  Car needs maintenance?  Bring it to a mechanic. When your mental and physical health are deteriorating, calling a wellness professional is the smart solution!  We all need support and help from time to time.  Asking for help is a sign of wisdom, and bravery.

Here at the Bown wellness space, we specialize in eating disorders /disordered eating, body image issues, anxiety and depression around food, pregnancy and postpartum eating and most recently- intuitive eating.

You or someone you love may be feeling confused or have low confidence when it comes to your relationship with food. Perhaps you know you need help but feel overwhelmed.  You could benefit from a nutritionist who specializes in eating disorders.  Nutritionist and dieticians understand the psychological aspect of your relationship with food.  We want your recovery to be strong, achievable and sustainable.

At my counseling practice, be prepared to put aside any shame, guilt and judgement surrounding this disease. I don’t eat salads and smoothies all the time.  In fact, I enjoy desserts every day.  The key is to add healthy foods to your diet, and focus on happiness and bringing the fun back into eating.

We are proud to support you and ALL people suffering with body image or eating disorders, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, body type, or financial status.

You might be wondering why I am so passionate about this field.  I have a long history with eating disorders.

When I was 13, I was hospitalized with an eating disorder.  At the time I was stressed out and unable to express my emotions.  I was trying to cope with life by controlling my food intake.  Though it was scary, I did survive and found the help and support I needed.  I’m so GRATEFUL for my years of treatment and am EXCITED to give back and help others.

Allow me to work with you and lift you up.  Your counseling will occur in a non-judgmental, shame-free space to ask questions, get help and be yourself.

Oh my gosh, what a difference we could make if we changed our culture from skinny-centric to joyful with food and body acceptance! Your journey is about your tastes, your health and what you can fit comfortably into your lifestyle.  Together we will work to make food a part of your life, not your entire life

Call me today to get going on your wellness journey. I am so excited for you!

On a personal note, my journey involves growing up with a special needs brother.  My brother, completely deaf and with Down Syndrome, was my best friend.  I was a “mama’s helper” and growing up I learned how important it is to be gentle and loving.  Josh taught me patience, compassion and understanding. I also learned how people can be cruel and selfish. That’s why I went into a helping career- to empower others, and help them achieve success!

I have been happily married since October 2020 and have a beautiful daughter, Madelyn.  My husband works in the wellness industry as chiropractor.  Together, we work on wellness, -mental, physical and spiritual.   While he aims to reduce peoples backpain in a natural way, I try to restore people’s confidence and relationship with food in a trusting way.  If this resonates with you and your values, click contact me, and set up that initial consult.

My degrees include a Bachelors of Science in Applied Nutrition with a Minor in Psychology, and a Masters in Clinical Dietetics.  I complete yearly continuing education to maintain my license. Additionally, I am certified in intuitive eating (removing guilt from your relationship with food).

YOUR STORY MATTERS.  YOU MATTER.  Are you ready to make your health and relationship with food a priority?  Get in touch with me and start regaining control of your daily life, and your health.   Every recovery journey is different.  What will your path be like?

To Your Health!

Emily Bown
